✨ Stephen Hawking’s Story and Impact on Faith and Vision

Beloved, here is a man whose life exemplifies how the combination of God-given abilities, faith, and dedication may lead to outstanding results for the Kingdom. Stephen Hawking survived until the age of 76, with the ability to communicate with the use of a speech-generating device. Despite receiving a tragic prognosis, he continued to work in the field of theoretical physics.

✅ A quick profile

  • Born 8 January 1942 in Oxford, England.
  • Diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in his early 20s — doctors gave little hope.
  • Became Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge in 1979—the position once held by Isaac Newton.
  • Worked with a speech-generating device, authoring books like A Brief History of Time that brought complex science to the world.
  • Earned numerous honours including the Copley Medal, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, election to the Royal Society.

🛐 Kingdom lessons

  • Faith under pressure: Hawking’s condition was severe. Yet he refused to let it define his contribution. As believers, we are called to walk by faith—“not by sight” (2 Cor 5:7).
  • Excellence in domain: Whether science or ministry, God gifts each for excellence. Hawking exemplified excellence even with physical limitation.
  • Power of testimony: His story testifies that where the human sees “impossible,” God can make a pathway. Philippians 4:13 rings true: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
  • Anointing in hardship: It’s in the wilderness of our pain that the anointing often becomes visible. Hawking’s device-voice became a symbol of hope globally.

Malala Yousafzai had a breakthrough through pain.

Sisters and brothers, this young woman’s journey is nothing short of supernatural: from near death at 15 to global influence for the cause of girls’ education. God indeed brings breakthrough.

✅ A quick profile

  • Born 12 July 1997 in Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan.
  • Advocated publicly for girls’ education under Taliban rule; at age 15 she was shot in the head by the Taliban while returning from school.
  • Survived multiple surgeries, recovered, and at age 17 became the youngest ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize (2014).
  • Co-founded the Malala Fund in 2013, advocating for every girl to receive 12 years of free, safe, quality education.
  • Author of I Am Malala (2013) and continued her advocacy on global platforms including the UN.

🛐 Kingdom lessons

  • A breakthrough that came about as a consequence of experience: Malala’s breakthrough came about as a consequence of her experience of pain. It is common for us to see breakthroughs in the Kingdom after we have been put through the fire of testing (see Daniel 3).
  • Her unwavering belief in the need of education, in particular for those who were on the margins of society, was the impetus behind her willingness to risk everything she had. Like everyone else, we are endowed with the anointing and power, and we are commanded to carry out a task.
  • “When the entire world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful,” says the proverb. “A single voice has the potential to make a tremendous difference.” We should proclaim the word that God has placed within us, and her story serves as a reminder to us that we should do so.
  • Malala was not only destined to survive, but she was also destined to succeed: Malala did not only end up surviving, but she was also successful in influencing education policy on a global basis. Within the Kingdom, the goal is not to survive; rather, it is to excel. This is the dominant focus.

Dear church family, Helen Keller’s life teaches us what it means to walk in supernatural resilience, to bear the anointing of advocacy, and to pursue excellence despite every barrier.

✅ A quick profile

  • Born 27 June 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
  • At 19 months old she lost both sight and hearing following an illness.
  • With her teacher Anne Sullivan, she learned to communicate via finger-spelling, Braille, and eventually speaking.
  • Graduated from Radcliffe College in 1904, becoming the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Advocate for the blind and deaf, women’s rights, labour rights, co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) among multiple honours.

🛐 Kingdom lessons

  • Supernatural power in weakness: Keller’s greatest achievements came out of what should have been an insurmountable life. Paul’s words ring true: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor 12:9).
  • Faith anchored in identity: She refused the identity of “helpless” and firmly took an identity of one empowered to speak and advocate.
  • Not only did Keller survive, but she excelled in her field. Keller’s graduation and activism surpassed expectations, demonstrating that she was exceptional beyond the usual.
  • She used her life to advocate for those who were overlooked by society, including the blind, the deaf, workers, women, and those who were persecuted. She was anointed for justice. Beloved, the objective of ministry is not simply to provide solace; rather, it is to transform injustice through the power of the anointing.
